“When I travel I want to stay close to the natural land, smell the breeze, hear the night sounds...”
Bruce Wilson -
Camp Owner/Habitat Designer
The Teak Bungalow unit, nestled in a group of trees, overlooks the Mount Victory farm valley.

Built by a master shipwright, the Mount Victory Camp dwellings are “landships” that are more craft than carpentry, expressing the joy of wood and the beauty of nature.

What better way to experience the smells, the sounds, the sights of the tropical wilderness of St. Croix?

A closer look at the construction on the Teak Bungalow dwelling. The shelter roof has been designed to allow the live tree to continue to grow through the roof.

Each dwelling at Mount Victory Camp is uniquely designed to accommodate one to six people.

Each shelter is flexible; close down all or part of the canvas tent or netting, defeating wind driven rain and sun, leaving the platform in a cool shade. Shade plus airflow are the keys to keeping cool in the tropics. Overlooking green trees and the expanse of the valley, the open design of these camp shelters puts you face to face with the outdoors.

Tent campsites are also available for those adventurers with their own gear. All campers have use of the pavilion, bathroom and public cooking facilities.

SAMAN DWELLING

“The serenity, calmness and tranquility of the Saman bungalow brings to mind the Indonesian forest.”
Josh - San Diego CA

Woodworking and Construction: More than 60 running feet of natural tropical hardwood slabs make up the counter tops. The supporting structures are made of local teak including the logs forming the four “prows” (which support a tensioned cable that holds the canopy roof).

The interior tent of the platform dwelling houses handcrafted beds“I designed these habitats to use shade trees and an open design to let cool breezes flow through.”
Bruce Wilson -
Camp Owner/Habitat Designer

“What a wonderful place! Beautiful, breezy, relaxing. Hannah, just 9 months old, loved the horses and the tortoises. We’ve enjoyed strolling around the property and taking hot showers with the blue sky overhead.”
The Johnsons - St. Croix USVI

The bungalows feature split-level construction. Rate: $85/night (2 adults/2 children). Additional guests: $10/night.

SCHOOLHOUSE BUNGALOW

The Van Scholten Schoolhouse is mostly ruins surrounded by trees, with a camping bungalow built inside
Built in 1841, the old stone Mount Victory schoolhouse was part of the island’s first school system.

Built from the massive West Indian Almond and Mahogany, this two-story dwelling is built into the ruins, overlooking the home of dozens of redfooted land tortoises - a successful captive-breeding program running two decades.

Life in ruins: campers in the Danish Schoolhouse Bungalow are sheltered by three-foot-thick stone walls.

Built into the ruins of an historic stone schoolhouse, inside it’s a split-level bedroom (4 single beds - 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs) and outside a kitchen/dining area. You can sit at the railing and watch the colony of red footed land tortoises foraging below, while above you a cathedral canopy of leaves filters the sunlight.

“Mientras dormiamos cayo' un aguacero riquisimo y por la manana hicimos el grupo de amigos el hiking a las ruinas - un descubrimiento increible!! Regresaremeos pronto. Tienen una imaginacion muy creativa.”
Familia Nicholas - St. Croix USVI

“What a wonderful time we had! The views are glorious. The ruins were fabulous! Friendly horses and great tortoises. The night was cool so the fire felt great. I saw two shooting stars. May my wishes come true. We’ll pass on the word to others!”
Lars Jacobsen - Denmark

CONDO BUNGALOW

Our first Caribbean camping prototype, now in use for two years, has been a big hit. The bedroom (4 single beds) is up the wooden spiral staircase.

The spiral staircase was made from local tropical hardwoods milled right here at the camp.

“To fall asleep to the music of the tree frogs, to wake to the sound of heavy showers...the craftsmanship in the construction: beauty follows form follows function: is awesome. I am at peace, paradise is now!”
Ellen & Lloyd Wells - Falmouth ME

Mt. Victory campers enjoy a family gathering on the deck of the condo bungalow.Downstairs is the kitchen and a double futon/couch, so the unit sleeps 6 total.

“Super Sympa! Nous reviendrons avec plaisir. Bravo Mathilde pour ces herbes qui sentent si bon.”
Danielle & Andre - St Tropez
