Happy Mt. Victory hikers celebrate after conquering a steep hill!
St. Croix is a treasure
trove of natural and cultural heritage. Mount Victory Camp can organize
educational and recreational tours with local experts, to show and explain
the wonders of our island home to your group. Tours can be arranged from
one hour moderate walkabouts in our valley, to full day strenuous hikes
through miles of deep valleys and breathtaking shorelines.
Our guides are almost always from the Caribbean. Depending
on your objectives, your guide could be a Crucian “weed woman”
(expert in local traditional medicinal herbs) who was trained through
years of walking the bush alongside a family mentor, a local historian,
birdwatcher, agriculturist... Looking
at our island through their eyes, we can all learn something new. Even
lifetime residents find answers to lifelong questions.
“Wonderful
to be so surrounded by nature’s beauty...the Caledonia Gut hike
was interesting, orchids in bloom and maidenhair ferns. Looking forward
to our next visit!”

Mt. Victory Camp and Plantation Tour:
We offer one to two hour tours of the immediate environs. Very popular
for school outings and folks wanting a general orientation to St.
Croix’s natural and cultural history. A minimum group size is
required. Ask for special student group rates. This easy walking trip
includes:
- Exploring the ruins of the Estate Mt Victory schoolhouse and plantation
- Checking out the captive breeding program of red-footed tortoises
- Seeing the camp’s natural gardens, alternative energy and innovative
architecture
- Hiking up the ridge to the old mill tower
Punch Mill to Sprat Hall Beach:
A
great (mostly) downhill trip through scenic cattle country ending at the
white sands of Sprat Hall Beach. Includes:
- Exploring the ruins of the Punch Mill with its hawks
nest, bee hive, and old cane crushing roller
- Hiking down “the chute” with its teak, guavaberry and black
olive trees
- Swim, lunch and drinks at Sunset Grill on Sprat Hall Beach
- Walk back (uphill) to camp…or we’ll drive you.
Annaly, to Sweet Bottom Baths and Carambola Beach:
A somewhat strenuous and certainly sensational trip through St. Croix’s
most magnificent wilderness. You’ll see:
- Huge views, deep guts, giant trees
- An incredible old windmill with plantation ruins, hidden deep in the
forest
- One of the world’s greatest saltwater bathing pools: the Sweet
Bottom baths
- Crashing surf far below you as you hike through native cliffside vegetation
