“We really enjoyed the night tour...to view all the stars. The hike through the ruins was very educational...to view structures that were here in the 1700s. This will not be the last visit...”
The Marreros - Deal NJ

A group of people in hiking clothes stand for a group photo at a high vantage point overlooking Mount Victory Farm valley and the Caribbean sea.
Happy Mt. Victory hikers celebrate after conquering a steep hill!

St. Croix is a treasure trove of natural and cultural heritage. Mount Victory Camp can organize educational and recreational tours with local experts, to show and explain the wonders of our island home to your group. Tours can be arranged from one hour moderate walkabouts in our valley, to full day strenuous hikes through miles of deep valleys and breathtaking shorelines.

Our guides are almost always from the Caribbean. Depending on your objectives, your guide could be a Crucian “weed woman” (expert in local traditional medicinal herbs) who was trained through years of walking the bush alongside a family mentor, a local historian, birdwatcher, agriculturist... Looking at our island through their eyes, we can all learn something new. Even lifetime residents find answers to lifelong questions.

Sasha and Mark - New York NY

Here are some of our more popular tours:

Mt. Victory Camp and Plantation Tour:

We offer one to two hour tours of the immediate environs. Very popular for school outings and folks wanting a general orientation to St. Croix’s natural and cultural history. A minimum group size is required. Ask for special student group rates. This easy walking trip includes:

  • Exploring the ruins of the Estate Mt Victory schoolhouse and plantation
  • Checking out the captive breeding program of red-footed tortoises
  • Seeing the camp’s natural gardens, alternative energy and innovative architecture
  • Hiking up the ridge to the old mill tower

Punch Mill to Sprat Hall Beach:
Hikers at Mount Victory Camp exploring the valleyA great (mostly) downhill trip through scenic cattle country ending at the white sands of Sprat Hall Beach. Includes:

  • Exploring the ruins of the Punch Mill with its hawks nest, bee hive, and old cane crushing roller
  • Hiking down “the chute” with its teak, guavaberry and black olive trees
  • Swim, lunch and drinks at Sunset Grill on Sprat Hall Beach
  • Walk back (uphill) to camp…or we’ll drive you.

Annaly, to Sweet Bottom Baths and Carambola Beach:
A somewhat strenuous and certainly sensational trip through St. Croix’s most magnificent wilderness. You’ll see:
  • Huge views, deep guts, giant trees
  • An incredible old windmill with plantation ruins, hidden deep in the forest
  • One of the world’s greatest saltwater bathing pools: the Sweet Bottom baths
  • Crashing surf far below you as you hike through native cliffside vegetation

Custom Tours:
We’re here to put it together for you - whether you’re birdwatchers, history buffs, treasure hunters, snorkelers and scuba divers, or wilderness campers... Whether you seek access to latin dancing, flats fishing, mountain biking, or stalking feral goats... Want to do landscape painting, photography, moonlight séances? We will secure a knowledgeable guide or outfitter, or create a learning package to suit your interests.

We’re a popular and unique venue for parties and groups of people, small and large. Centrally located cooking and bathroom facilities make things comfortable. You can include a hiking tour or other activity to round out your group’s experience. Here are some of the possibilities:

Daytime Bungalow Parties: For folks renting accommodations, it’s fun to invite people in for a party. Could be a bar-b-cue, or a birthday or family celebration, or just a holiday fete. Renters can have up to four guests visit during the day for free. Over that number we charge per person. See Rates for price schedule.

“We went mountain bike riding and had a good frisbee throw!
A nice shower and a cool breeze.
We sure don’t want to but we have to go.”
Ryan & Claudia - Greensboro, NC

Full Camp Parties:
Some folks rent the whole camp for a wedding or family reunion. This can be for a day or for a few days. People coming from off-island have a place to stay. Our pavilion can accommodate large groups for buffet-style eating. The camp can provide food and drink, or you can have your own caterer…or do group cooking yourself!

“Dear Bruce,
The place was great. At first I thought I wasn't going to like it, but by the end of the day it was great! Thanks for letting us stay here at Mt Victory. It was a blast! I thought the finest thing was building the fire and roasting marshmallows plus making smores. Thanks alot.”

A camper and one of our camp dogs take a nap on the lawn, a plate of food nearbyNote: We try to “keep it local”. We can hire Quelbe scratch bands, calypso or steelpan bands, top-flight jazz ensembles. For food we’re always trying to give people a real taste of the Caribbean. We offer traditional island dishes like pan-roasted cassava bread, breadfruit salads, or green banana tostones. We serve up fresh locally caught fish, meat from local ranches, and organic veggies and seasonings grown right here in our own valley. Our Caribbean cooks are one of our greatest treasures: Our Crucian, Haitian, and Carib Indian foods are prepared authentically by our staff from their family recipes.

A pavilion guest and friend enjoy a siesta on the lawn after indulging in the famous Mt. Victory Camp pig roast.

“...The grounds are spectacular, the herbs delicious...thank you for your hospitality. We’ll be grateful to return when the city gets overwhelming.”
