About our Workshops….
Whether you're looking for a new skill to take home with you, or you just want something engaging to do between time spent lying on the beach, we've got an array of workshops available for you.
We've been practicing and teaching ancestral skills of living with the land for over a decade. We were also blessed with the opportunity to be instructors at Tom Brown Jr.'s Tracking, Nature, and Wilderness Survival School for a number of years before moving to St. Croix. We are excited to offer an array of learning opportunities based on what we've learned from Tom Brown, Jr. Tom was mentored by an Apache elder named Stalking Wolf, who lived free of the reservations his whole life and wandered all over North and South America living fully from the land. Over their ten years together, Stalking Wolf taught Tom about primitive wilderness survival, tracking, awareness, and a Native American philosophy of living with the earth. Tom has passed on these skills to us and we are excited about passing them along as well. We teach to all levels of experience and interest, and we offer almost any length and intensity of a program that you might be interested in.
Just a short list of subjects that we teach include. -Wild plant identification and their uses -Basket weaving -Wild food collection and preparation -Primitive Pottery -Native style community and character building -Stone tool making and artifact reproduction -Bow-making -Primitive fire by friction -Primitive shelter building -Naturalist studies -Tracking and Awareness -Rope and cord-making from natural fibers -Hide Tanning (making leather and furs) And much more! |
We offer workshops for kids, adults, and families!
We teach you how to make everything you need from what you can find in the natural environment…including your own clothes!

Summer Camps
Montessori Summer Camp
This program is run through the St. Croix Montessori School, so students can be registered by calling the school at (340) 718-2859. The first few days will take place on the school grounds near Christiansted and the last couple days we will be at Mount Victory Camp. The format is similar to the youth and teen skills experience (described below) but they could both be taken back-to-back for a more enhanced experience in a greater variety of skills, since we will not be covering the exact same material during both weeks.

Youth and Teen Earth Skills Experience
Ages 8-17
In this program, campers learn the essential skills of wilderness survival: how to provide oneself with shelter, water, fire, and food. Campers will also learn proper knife and tool safety and how to stay safe in the wild. In addition to making useful things from materials they collect from the land, we will also go on adventures in the surrounding area and learn about the diverse local plant and animal life and how they interact. Interspersed throughout the week, we will play a number of Native American games which were designed to teach useful awareness skills for everyday life.
Youth and teen groups will be formulated based on numbers and ages of campers.
Campers must bring their own snack and lunch. Parents are responsible for providing transportation to the camp each day.

Week-Long Adult Classes
Tropical Skills Class
This class is a compilation of many of the native skills we have learned during our journeys in the Caribbean, Central America, and Hawai’i. We will cover skills such as bone fish hooks, pottery, primitive spear-guns, bamboo bows, palm leaf hats, wild tropical plants for food and medicine, calabash bowls, cordage, weaving, as well as ecological, cultural and historical aspects of the island of St. Croix. Learn what life was like for the natives that Columbus encountered and experience the island from jungle, to farm, to sea!
All meals included.
"Calabash" Survival Quest
This class is for those who want to push their limits, and experience survival living with the guidance of experienced survivalists. We spend two days preparing foodstuffs, and then we take off into "the bush" for four days of survival immersion. We build our own shelter completely from materials we collect by hand, make fire by primitive means, and collect food from the land. This class is geared towards all levels of experience. People come away from this class with an entirely new view of nature and their place in it.

We spend our time in a remote and spectacularly beautiful corner of the island, where very few people ever go. This is truly a life changing experience for people, and upon re-integrating with the modern world, most people find that this class enhances their lives on a daily level. Because of the intensity of this course, we recommend that people take it alongside the Tropical Skills class.
The Tropical Skills class, and the Calabash survival quest can be and has been held as a private class, and can be altered in length to suit you or your group's needs, please contact us if you have an interest in these classes as a private course.
