Schoolhouse Apartment
|
Built in 1841, the Mount Victory schoolhouse ruins were part of the island's first school system. Built with tropical hardwoods, the apartment was designed to be comfortable for guests, but still maintain the natural feel of the weathering on the structure's exterior.
Built from the massive West Indian Almond and Mahogany, this dwelling is built into the ruins. A few steps outside the back door take you down to the home of our redfooted tortoises, which are considered to have first arrived on the island in the canoes of early migrators from South America.
The ruins are a great place to chill out and slow yourself down...to tortoise pace.

Day Use
We’re a popular and unique venue for parties and groups, small and large. Centrally located cooking and bathroom facilities make things comfortable. You can include a hiking tour or other activity to round out your group’s experience. Here are some of the possibilities: Daytime Cabin Parties: For folks renting accommodations, it’s fun to invite people in for a party. Could be a barbeque, or a birthday or family celebration, or just a holiday fete. Renters can have up to four guests visit during the day for free. Over that number we charge per person. See Rates for price schedule. Full Camp Parties: Some folks rent the whole camp for a wedding or family reunion. This can be for a day or for a few days. People coming from off-island have a place to stay. Our pavilion can accommodate large groups for buffet-style eating. The camp can provide food and drink, or you can have your own caterer…or do group cooking yourself! |
The Camp Pavilion
This is the center of activity for the camp. The camp pavilion is a place to relax and meet people - fellow campers, locals...a place to cook, eat, drink and enjoy yourself.
The Pavilion is made with beautiful slabs of mahogany and situated to catch the Caribbean breezes.
There's a propane stove for guests to use, as well as multiple fire pits for campfire cooking or just sitting around the fire with friends, enjoying the cool Caribbean nights.
We have plenty of pots, pans, dishes, and silverware so if you like to do your own cooking, you don't have to travel with any equipment. There's also a fridge and a sink, as well as plenty of lighting for the evening time.
The pavilion is also equipped with a bar, making it ideal for parties, weddings and more!
We have free Wifi available for all guests in the pavilion
You don't need to rent out the entire camp to book a party at our camp pavilion, we're a great spot for musical events, parties, weddings, family reunions, church group meetings...
Tortoise Colony
Come visit and feed the tortoises!
South American red-footed tortoises (Geocolonius denticultata) are thought by some to have arrived by indigenous canoe from the South American continent long ago. They share the ruins with guests staying in the schoolhouse apartment.
These mellow and friendly animals are slow-moving but curious. They love to eat hibiscus flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
